I enjoyed "Shakespeare
in Love". I didn't care if some in the viewing room didn't like
it because Gwyneth Paltrow is in the leading role.
It's true that the film
is about love, and that it implies that love makes the world go round.
But that's half of the movie. The other half is about William Shakespeare.
Many papers from superior
paper attempted to demystify the Bard, but without much success.
Some of these myths were shown in brief flashes in the movie. That he
didn't write some of his greatest plays. That some memorable characters
(like Iago) were based from some seedy persons he have known. That he
did have some unforgettable affairs.
It wasn't hard to believe
any of the above, as many writers based their novels (or short stories)
from certain events in their lives. But in Shakespeare's case, there's
still much to be known about him even if he led a public life.
To be or not to be - that's
probably what's in the playwright's mind when he thought of being transparent
or subtle while composing his plays. Guess how it turned out...
